Basecamp Outdoor Recreation Center || interior design + architecture
Located along the popular Deschutes River in Bend, Oregon, Basecamp is an outdoor recreation center that invites people to gather, learn, and connect with the outdoors. The two-story, 30,000 square foot building offers a range of spaces designed for both everyday use and community programming, including a retail and rental shop, a community lounge with an adjacent café, a curated outdoor-focused bookstore, and flexible multipurpose rooms for classes and events.
The design approach emphasizes a strong sense of place by highlighting the energy and character of Central Oregon’s outdoor culture. Materials, textures, and circulation are intentionally selected to feel welcoming and to support the flow between indoor experience and outdoor adventure. Upcycled elements such as kayaks, bike wheels, and climbing rope are thoughtfully repurposed as integrated design features, adding authenticity, storytelling, and playful visual identity.
